After more than a year of anticipation and planning Heather and David exchanged vows in front of friends and family at Sterling Hills Country Club in Camarillo last weekend, marking my first wedding of the summer! The 2015 wedding season is in full swing here in Southern California so of course as a wedding photographer that means it’s crunch time for me. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was a perfectly beautiful day without a cloud in the sky. Arriving an hour and a half early as I usually do, I was greeted by a gentle breeze and mild 75-degree temperatures as I stood on a grassy mound overlooking the gorgeous, picturesque grounds where the ceremony was to take place. My first concern, as always, is lighting, so I had to determine how the sunlight would be affecting the scene later on and whether I would need to set up lights with wireless remotes to capture bright, clear photos of the ceremony. With technical lighting issues out of the way early I was able to relax and focus on the beauty of the ceremony and anticipating all the special moments that I wanted to capture. Thanks to the scenic surroundings we didn’t have to walk far to find a great spot for group portraits, so with the help of the lights I had already set up and my trusty wooden ladder we got to work creating some amazing shots right at the edge of the putting green. What I didn’t anticipate was also being super close to the driving range. After a very nervous venue manager encouraged us to wrap things up before getting hit by golf balls, we escaped the line of fire without incident! When it was all said and done, this day wasn’t really about lights, cameras and pretty scenery; it was about special moments, tears, laughter and the sweetest couple you could ever hope to meet. On top of that they both were surrounded by the most genuine, generous and loving family and friends who embraced me like family as well. Congratulations and thank you guys so much for having me present for all those unforgettable moments and making me feel like family!
